The Zermatt paragliding experience
If you want the full Zermatt paragliding experience, the Classic is my go-to flight.
Rothorn is our main and preferred take-off, at approximately 3,100 metres above sea level. During a
short period in the off-season, Gornergrat can sometimes become an alternative. This is only
possible when the ski pistes are closed but there is still sufficient snow cover, so this opportunity is
usually limited to around one or two months of the year. Rotenboden is used only occasionally, for
example when it is permitted and Rothorn is not operating.
However, a Classic Flight does not always have to start from the highest take-off. Depending on
wind, ground conditions and the passenger, I may choose a lower launch if I consider it the safer or
more comfortable option. A grassy lower take-off can, for example, be a better choice for a passenger
who would benefit from an easier, less demanding launch.
What defines the Classic is the overall flying experience, height gained and flight duration - not
simply the altitude of the launch. In good thermal conditions we can take off lower, climb high above the
take-off after launch and still enjoy the full Classic experience and flight time. For this reason, a flight
may still be booked and charged as a Classic even when the pilot selects a lower take-off.
The exact launch is therefore always the pilot's decision, based on the conditions, permissions, lift
operations and the individual passenger. Safety comes first, while my aim is still to provide the height,
duration and experience you booked.
Once airborne, you can relax and take in the panorama: the Matterhorn, glaciers, Zermatt village below
us and some of the highest peaks in the Alps.
